25/09/13 - 26/09/13

Left Upton at 6am headed for BHX. Bikes through security no problem and no extra charge as flying with China airlines. Next stop Amsterdam, then 3hr wait. Check in China Airlines, nice plane, food and seats, no complaints as have read online - guess it depends which route you are on. Mainly Chinese travelling home, but also 20% westerners. 11hr flight time to Bangkok. Sun set and 5 hrs later dawn. 5hr wait in Bangkok. Spent £40 in BKK airport on food and drinks! 1hr20 mins Vietnam Airways to Hanoi. Bikes arrived in airport safely, VISA smooth process but expensive. Only other problem was watching our luggage bag rolling back down conveyor a few times. Greeted by hotel taxi. Got luggage in room and freshened up then headed out for some food in local place Highway 4 which did awesome food. First impression of Hanoi street life on two weary travellers is a rude awakening, so busy, so many bikes. Hotel right in middle of Old Quarter. First night catfish on lemon grass skewers, Beef strips with ant dip (my favourite with nice acidity coming from ants like strong lime or vinegar), Pork Spring rolls, sweet potato parcels. Awake for 32hrs then slept for 14hrs. Hotel cost £60 for 3 nights with breakfast.
