128km, 1488m climb, about 35 degrees and a road that was more of an offroad adventure course than anything else made this a toughie. The average speed was really low due to the road surface (or lack of). We skinned the China border by a few metres at one point, we should have snuck in!
Out in the countryside, everyone, really everyone waves and shouts heeeell-oo!!
We are drinking more than 4 litres each on these rides. Bottled drinking water is 32p for a 1.5L bottle.
We had another quite nice hotel booked in the rather industrial town of Cao Bang (£12). It was the penthouse suite also, right at the top 7th floor. No restaurant so we went out looking for something but eventually found a place at the bottom of another hotel about 50m from our own after touring the town. Its was a point to order place (they show you the meat options and you just point at one). Nice grub.
